course structure

Studio 1

In this first session, students are allocated into departments based on their nominated specialisation. These include Art Department, Pre-vis, Modelling, Surfacing, Rigging, Layout, Animation, Effects, Lighting, Compositing, Technical Direction or Production Management. The entire cohort then develops the story idea for a 3D animated short film and commences production in a professional studio. Dailies are run in the morning and desk rounds are run throughout the day to ensure the work is constantly improved. The Academy Leads function as the department supervisors, running masterclasses throughout the session and ensuring the project is kept on track and delivered to the highest industry standards.

Studio 2

In this session, students research and interact with emerging visualisation technologies such as (but are not limited to) real-time animation, virtual production, augmented-, virtual- and mixed reality – depending on what is emerging in in the sector at the time. In groups, students develop creative project ideas using one or more of these emerging technologies and present these as a prototype to the industry.

Studio 3

During this final session, students complete the projects, contributing in their specialised roles to the highest of industry standards. The projects include the 3D animated short film and also often the selected Studio 2 project. At the end of the session, the Academy invites key industry partners to celebrate the completed projects and to give students the opportunity to network with potential future employers at the end-of-year Showcase.
