about

what is

design?

The word ‘design’ is used in many ways in our day-to-day lives. Design is not exactly art, and it’s not really science either. It takes elements from both.

Design is the conceptualization and creation of new things: ideas, interactions, information, objects, typefaces, books, posters, products, places, signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more.

To quote Steve Jobs: “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

what is colour design?

There are only a few more important things in design than the use of color. Having the knowledge of the effects of color is an invaluable tool in the hand of a designer: simply changing the hue or saturation of a color can create a completely different reaction or feeling. It is a science and art in itself, and people build entire careers on color theory.

“People decide whether or not they like a product in 90 seconds or less. 90% of that decision is based solely on color.”

what is digital design?

Digital design is any design that is created to be interacted with on a digital interface. Digital designs are crafted specifically for devices, taking into account factors like user experience, interactivity, differences in screen size, and more. In short, they are often designed to be used rather than read.

While graphic design focuses mostly on static designs, digital design involves movement, such as animation, interactive pages, and 2D or 3D modeling.

Textile design is the process of planning and producing a fabric’s appearance and structure. Textile designers dream up designs that are woven or knitted into cloth or printed on fabric. They might suggest types of thread to weave together for a specific look and feel or create patterns that adorn a fabric surface.

Finding application in various fields such as fashion, home decor, lifestyle, automobile, and other service industries, textiles form a substantial part of our daily interaction with the tangible world.

what is user interface design?

UI refers to the actual interface of a product; the visual design of the screens a user navigates through when using a mobile app, or the buttons they click when browsing a website. UI design is concerned with all the visual and interactive elements of a product interface, covering everything from typography and color palettes to animations and navigational touchpoints (such as buttons and scrollbars).

UI brings together concepts from interaction design, visual design, and information architecture.

User Interface Design is a crucial subset of UX. They both share the same end goal—to provide a positive experience for the user—but UI Design comprises an entirely separate leg of the journey.
